The Brain Meteorite

pencil & ink drawing on crumpled paper

90x65x60cm

2013년

I placed numerous drawings on brain-shaped crumpled paper. I made this paper sculpture by crumpling one piece of paper without cutting or gluing, so it is becoming between two dimensional drawing and three dimensional sculpture. The ideas are from my real experiences and fantasies as the same way they are existing in my brain.

Designing Egos

paper sculptures & drawing installation on table, paint on wall

2000x1700x350cm

2012년

I tried to sweep out everything that I think, and put them on brain-shaped paper sculpture. This project was very self focused and meditational. As sweeping out my brain, paradoxically my mind could get empty and I named this project “Designing Egos”

To emphasize the concept of making my brain, I actually made a brain-shaped hat. This wearable accessory helps to explicate my “Designing Egos” project.

Designing Egos

pencil & ink drawing on crumpled paper

180x100x60cm

2012년

Since I tried to make drawings about everything I think, including both my actual experiences and fantasies, these drawing sculptures became very crowded and complicated. Therefore, these works became like castoff pieces of my brain and thought.

This is one detail shot of Designing Egos. Each image is very easy to understand and simple to empathize with. I always use symbolic or allegorical images with humor.

Moussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition

paper sculptures & drawing installation on pedestals

2000x1800x320cm

2013년

This project came from a classical music piece “Pictures at an Exhibition” of Moussorgsky. The music has ten different themes which are inspired by ten chosen drawings from his artist friend Viktor Hartmann. Those ten musical themes I reinterpreted as a visual installation on the ten pedestals.

Moussorgsky, Pictures at an Exhibition

2013년

This is the 10th theme, “The Great Gate of Kiev” from “Pictures at an Exhibition”. I juxtaposed the portraits of Moussorgsky and Hartmann and put very similar images to Hartmans’s original drawing as well as very private metaphorical images as my own reinterpretation of this music.

Storyteller

Paint, wall drawing

2000x2000x800cm

2013년

Making wall drawings causes both the drawings and myself as an artist to become a part of the installation space. When the audience walks into this space, they also can be part of the drawings' stories.

Der Ring des Nibelungen

The manual book of installation & wall drawing of “Der Ring des Nibelungen”

40x20cm

2014년

This is the manual book for my installation piece “Der Ring des Nibelungen”. In reinterpreting Wagner’s four different operas into numerous drawings, I place them on paper sculptures, wall drawings and hand-drawn animation. This book is also part of the installation and helps the audience to grasp details about the work.

Der Ring des Nibelungen

paper sculpture & drawing installation on table, animation on antique television

1800x1600x400cm

2014년

This installation is inspired by Wagner’s opera “Der Ring des Nibelungen”. The series of Nibelung consist of four different operas, “The Rhine Gold”, “The Valkyrie”, “Siegfried” and “Twilight of the Gods”. Each opera’s visual interpretations are transformed into paper sculptures, wall drawings and hand-drawn animation. Also, I produced manual books to emphasize image details.
